Las Vegas Veteran Police Officer Suspended for Lewd Conduct with Underage Girl

Las Vegas Metro police have suspended a veteran police officer of six years from the force after allegations of sexual misconduct with an underage girl have surfaced. After speaking with the father of the underage girl in question, Las Vegas police felt it would be wise to allow the accused officer to go on paid administrative leave until the matter was resolved. Considering the youth of the girl involved in the alleged crime, whose name has not been revealed, the allegations could be quite serious for the veteran Las Vegas Metro police officer if he is found guilty. It is also important to note that even in the case of those police officers and other law-enforcement officials who are accused of sexual misconduct who are acquitted of all crimes and wrong doing, there is quite often a social stigma that makes it difficult for them to continue to function as a productive part of society. These allegations can be damaging to the character of the individual above and beyond what legal repercussions might occur from such accusations. Any attempts in the future to work in law enforcement as a career choice would surely be hindered by these types of difficulties on the professional record of the police officer in question.

The father of the young girl involved in the case claims that the suspected officer and the young underage girl exchanged e-mails frequently and that they maintained a boyfriend/girlfriend type of relationship. He went on to state that, due to her young age, the relationship was completely inappropriate and illegal under Nevada state law. If there is a record of e-mails between the police officer in the underage girl then there would indeed be a chain of evidence that would indicate the Las Vegas police officers guilt in the child molestation case. If this type of chain of evidence is brought to court in fact, it would be damning indeed for the suspected police officer, as all manner of information can be gleaned from e-mail records that cannot be altered by the user without tremendous effort and technical skill. By producing the e-mail records, the girl’s father could theoretically effectively establish the officer’s guilt with little trouble. It remains to be seen whether the victim will be required to testify in court against her assailant, although this particular step is usually avoided in these types of underage cases.
